Default 2006-07 Australian Open Report

The organisers report for the 2006-07 Australian Open can be read here http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=drvkdd2_1d66qmnzw
You can also get to the report via the chessexpress blog (and read the discussion of the report).

Note: The report was submitted to the ACF 6 months ago, it is just being publicly released by the authors (not the ACF) now.

Nobody had to pay an entry fee? If that's the case, I may be inclined to attend the next one. Also, $22,000 in sponsorship! Great Job to the organizers!

You comprehension skills are abysmal.
All he did was refer to venue fees.
Nowhere did Shaun say or even imply that no one had to pay the entry fee.

It must be something about the whole event that provokes confusion in the thought process of non-players. There is still uncorrected nonsense about sponsorship/website/live coverage/newspaper reporting from south the (NSW) border that any sane person would have withdrawn/apologised for 11 months ago.
But on the subject of venue fee waivers we had a double loss from the poor numbers. After we agreed to the venue price the Southern Cross Club not only gave us a grant but also agreed to waive the venue charge. However implied in this arrangement was that we would have 150-200 players at the tournament. By failing to reach that mark we missed out on both the extra income, and the reduced expenses.

As an aside:

The event was remarkably well run and comfortable. Thanks SP et al. You are worth more praise than you receive.

Ouch!

Might I inquire how short of the 150 player mark you came? Also, I am a current player who has watched my rating plummet from about 1762 to the 1400's in about 12-18 months I simply misread that part of the report. There were no comprehension problems as Bill suggested.

Best,

AO
