Default International Organisers Title

Hi Everyone,

I am not sure where to place this but if any moderator finds a suitable place feel free to move it to the correct place.

I have just received an email from FIDE stating about the changes of getting the IO title. Please read the email that I received below:

"Dear friends,

TITLE OF INTERNATIONAL ORGANISER (IO)

The Presidential Board in Al Ain accepted the recommendations of the Events
Commission concerning the title of International Organiser. With effect from
1 January 2012, the title of IO shall not be awarded directly upon
application. Instead, candidates will be required to attend seminars and to
pass the examination. Successful candidates will be awarded the title upon
payment of title fee and licence fee (3-years) similar to the systems
already in place for trainers.

FIDE urges all national federations to apply for the title for their
organisers with the application fee or confirmation that they accept to pay
if the title is granted. The deadline shall be 20th July 2011 after which
late penalty shall be imposed.

After the Krakow Congress, no direct application shall be accepted.

Ignatius Leong

Chairman, Events Commission"

Please post your thoughts on this in the thread.

I know that this title exists but:
What is the title actually for?
What is the advantage to have this title?

The title is for organising international tournaments and the advantage of having it is just to have a couple of letters next to your name on the FIDE website.

Useless letters that mean nothing to me or any other chess player who could care less. Tell FIDE to keep their silly title.

I believe that many chess players (International Grandmasters) do not receive what is promised and therefore is this title appointed by FIDE.

This is a titled appointed by FIDE and the people that have it in the Oceania zone are Greame Gardiner, Brian Jones (both AUS) and Paul Spiller (NZL)
