I have added two additional features to OzChess for member comfort and enjoyment.
First, in your private message inbox and outbox, the avatars of the people who sent you PM's will now be displayed. If they don't have an avatar, a No Avatar picture will be displayed. Check it out, its pretty cool but only works on the OzSmart skin (which is the default skin for most users). ![]() The second feature is even cooler. If you hit New Posts, previously the thread preview window would pop up when you hovered a thread, and it would show the first post made in that thread. This was kind of stupid as the title of a thread usually gives the reader a good idea about what that thread is about, hence - making the preview of the first post rather unnecessary. Now, however, the preview will be of the LAST post made in that thread. I hope everyone enjoys these new features. Also, to our Chess Chat friends, please ask yourself, when was the last time Chess Chat's Admin staff added a new feature or enhancement for member enjoyment?

Unfortunately the CAQ doesn't have a president willing to do anything about that or to inject some CAQ funds into re-establishing the Rockhampton club. Yet another reason why people are disappointed in his job performance since taking the reins. ![]()

Step 1 - Go to Google Maps and type in the name of the place you want (ie. The Gap Chess Club).
Step 2 - When the Google Map displays, there will be a Link Icon in the upper right hand side of your map. Step 3- Cut and Paste that Link. Step 4 - Use the [map] tags and place the cut and pasted address in between the tags. Step 5 - Post your post, the map will display automatically. |

I am thinking of having a programmer design a new modification which works as follows.
Usually, the Box Hill and Melbourne Chess Clubs broadcast 3 games at a time. So I was thinking, what if we push the Shoutbox down from where it sits presently, and then in that newly created space we add the 3 chess boards, tuned live so when a move is made it shows up on OzChess right away. With the Shoutbox right underneath, viewers could comment on the games live as they watch the game, without even having to leave the OzChess homepage. Obviously, such a mod would cost money, but I think I know a programmer who would be up to the task. If members would be willing to donate to such a mod, the DONATE button at the top works and allows donations to be made via Paypal. I suppose the questions are: 1. Can such a mod be developed and installed on OzChess? 2. Is the OzChess membership willing to fund such a modification? I think the answer to question 1 is yes. The answer to question 2 is up in the air.

I've wanted to do this for over two years now and finally got around to it. Its one of those things where my knowledge of vBulletin and coding has simply grown as a result of starting OzChess, and I was finally able to achieve this without anyone else doing it for me.
Basically when you view a thread in OzSmart skin, in the top right hand corner you have always had a little box saying:
![]() Enjoy.

We're doing some work on the homepage. Should take less than an hour (hopefully). Sorry for the disruption.

I changed the refresh time so now the boards will only refresh once every 75 seconds, so a minute and a quarter. I hope this isn't too long but every thirty seconds was annoying. I am told the mod can also be adapted for the MCC games, but so far this hasn't happened yet. We'll see how it goes with Box Hill before we make further adaptations to this mod. I hope everyone enjoys it. ![]()

I have increased the width and length of the code boxes, so when members use the [code] tags, now they can fit more in without those silly scroll things appearing.

Members will be pleased to have yet another new feature!
This time it relates to our under used Calendar, which is accessible by clicking the calendar button in the Navbar at the top of the page. From now on, when a member posts a New Thread, there is now a button entitled Submit Thread & Make Calendar Entry. Basically it works exactly the same as when you add a poll to a new thread, your thread gets posted and then the site automatically takes you to the calendar entry page. So if your new thread relates to an upcoming tournament, then you can add the event into the calendar easily at the same time. The homepage will also be editted soon, with the Forum Info on the lefthand side of the homepage being editted so that it includes Calendar Events.
