It occurred to me that OzChess, Australia's newest and best Chess Forum, should have a separate thread to keep posters up to date about rules and announcements that are made.
So far the only rule is to be respectful towards others, even if you disagree with their views. If members practise the Golden Rule, that would be an added bonus. Moderators!!!! An offer to have Trevor Stanning (MOZ and starter on other chess boards) has been made, but it will likely be a fortnight or so before I have a response as he is quite busy. Expressions of interest will also be considered. This is the best time to get in on the gound floor. |

I am willing to be a moderator on a roster of some sought. I do not expect that there will be anything to do other than.
1. Remove porn. 2. Remove real SPAM. 3. Ask someone to concider their "tone." I honestly think that there will be no need to go deleting or moving members posts against their wishes. |

I have changed Platypus' name from Platypus to Watto, as requested. I have also increased the number of Private Message storage to 500.

A Google search about a fortnight ago for the terms 'Chess Forum Australia' placed OzChess in 6th spot. I was pleased about this but knew that in time the SEO Optimizations would yield even better results.
Today I did a search using the same terms, and OzChess is now occupying the third and fourth spots, second overall after CC. On Yahoo the results are even better with those search terms placing OzChess in #1 spot. I suspect that CC got off their lazy butts when I first mentioned this subject because their positioning has also improved. Anyway, just thought I would let everyone know this positive news. Obviously in time, with new members using these 2 search engines to look for chess forums to join, OzChess should benefit from this development. AO |

Pax has claimed that he sometimes has difficulties accessing this site.
If anyone has trouble loading up www.ozchess.com.au then I recommend you a.) Use Explorer as opposed to Firefox; and b.) Just type http://ozchess.com.au (without the triple www) That should solve your problems. If not, please email me allegation@gmail.com Thanks, AO

The board may be down for a few hours tomorrow or the day after so that a new chess modification can be added to OzChess.

I use firefox of 99% of web browsing including all vbulletin sites I visit and can't remember every having a browser issue. Also if www. doesn't resolve then we have problems, but I will try that next time. I also had problems access ozchess yesterday. Seemed to be a problem resolving the server name to an address (ie DNS issue). Who handles the DNS for your domain? FWIW I've used zoneedit.com for many years and found it to be pretty reliable and free for the first domain.

I was experiencing problems again tonight. The problem seems to be the name gets dropped by my DNS server. Not sure why. It would be interesting if Pax is also using the Exetel DNS servers.
The problem has been resolved by placing the following line in the hosts files 69.16.225.247 www.ozchess.com.au I got the IP address by doing a whois on the domain and to get the hosting nameserver and then nslookup - ns1.vbskinworks.com and asking that server for the IP address of www.ozchess.com.au. Dialogue attached... Code:
C:\Documents and Settings\Barry>nslookup - ns1.vbskinworks.com Default Server: host.vbskinworks.com Address: 69.16.225.247 > ozchess.com.au Server: host.vbskinworks.com Address: 69.16.225.247 Name: ozchess.com.au Address: 69.16.225.247 > exit I note that this IP address is the same as the DNS server for the domain. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing. |

Nevertheless, the registered domain name is www, and maybe its time for me to call the server (likely Monday at the earliest as my weekends get booked up pretty fast) and I'll see if this can be cleared up.
