Smile OzChess To Have Elected Moderators

As many members will be aware, OzChess has 3 new moderators (LMatheson, Jaydon, Heartbreak Kid).

Some people may be wondering why they were appointed when I had previously handled the moderation on this site with some help from MOZ (for a period until he was banned on CC for this), and also some help from Firegoat7.

The reason is because I don't think I will be around as often over the next few months to handle these things, and OzChess deserves to be in good and capable hands. Even if I do continue my current participation level, I want to leave the heavy lifting to others as I have grown tired of it.

I am also aware that if moderators hold their position indefinitely, the forum will become stale - indeed, even toxic. As such OzChess will elect moderators (an idea originating with Firegoat7).

The current moderators will serve until the end of the year (31 December 2009), with the elected moderators taking over on 1 January 2010. The current mods can put their hands up to stay on as moderators (provided they get an elected mandate). Any member can vote, and any member can seek election or re-election. The terms will be 6 months, and there are three moderation positions available.

To protect the identity of various accounts, moderators do not have access to ip address information. This allows OzChess to ensure compliance with the Commonwealth Privacy Act 1988.

I avoid vote rigging, I would like for voting to be done by post with the elector signing their name to their ballot. I would keep this information completely confidential (and obviously I am not a candidate). But I am open to other voting models as well if someone else wants to propose anything else. Using the current thread polls would not lead to a result that could be trusted as legitimate due to use of hydra accounts.

Anyway, those are my plans for the moderation of OzChess. Members interested in becoming mods can announce their candidacy by 30 November 09 with voting to take place in December.

Thumbs up New Thread!

I decided to make this a stand alone thread for thoughts, nominations, etc.

In the other place they don't like the idea of me tallying the votes and want a neutral party to do that. Guess what?

Spoiler for Guess What?:
I am cool with that idea - it means less work for me!

So what do you guys think?

Whatever you think will work best. However, if the users post their votes on the thread, anyone can simply count them up.

Hi,

I was thinking about this election today. I would like to see people declare their real names before voting. I say this because I don't want to see a minority interest group (ie 2 bananas) rigging the vote. Maybe we make an exception for 1 Ax vote.

cheers,

Dear Mr Ian Rout (ACF news publisher) could you please put Ozchessforum in the next news letter! There is no reason to hide this forum from the Australian chess public.

What they meant?

I, Frank Lekkas, am willing to serve another 6 months as moderator. Nobody knows more about the shoutbox than me anyway

I am hoping the 3 current mods put their hand up for a full term, so I think its great Frank is running. Hopefully Jaydon and LMatheson will follow suit!

Also, is antichrist running?

Lastly, with 3 positions available - how will this work? How many votes will each person get? Will it be preferences? Public vote or private? How many posts does a member need to have made on OzChess to get a vote?
