Will there be hymn's for us to sing? Also, how bad do the mozzies get and should I bring pecticide? Also, will the pesticide keep away the real pests also known as bots? Also, if the pesticide does not work on the bots, are we allowed to bring a shot gun to the bonfire?

So i can only answer you by telling you what we expect at Tyrant Night . 1) No hymns , but the SCT RAP will be compulsory for all attendees. 2) we make moz most welcome 3)we don't use pesticide , but like Bonfire Night we use fire . 4) and finally yes , we encourage all attendees to pack heat.

Thank you Firegoat, this brings back my childhood memories of Guy Fawlkes night (November 5) in the country in the late 1970s, where we would have a huge bonfire (the bigger the better!) and set off firecrackers.
There was always a great sense of "community" on the occasion, with all the families from the district coming together for a sausage sizzle and to have fun. These days, people are much more circumspect - the State Government banned fireworks (which basically killed the celebration), and the state of the bush these days means that lighting a bonfire at that particular time of the season would be a huge bushifre risk. (I guess this sort of thing happens when you take a winter festival from the northern hemisphere and apply it to the same date in the southern hemisphere). Anyway, we used to wrap potatoes in aluminium foil and put them under the base of the bonfire. This meant we all had baked potatoes for supper after the bonfire burnt down. Another favourite was the banana, slitted and stuffed with dark cooking chocolate and then wrapped with foil, and placed at the edge of the fire so the chocolate would melt. It was always a sort of magical night, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart, for trying to recreate such atmosphere of community in an online situation (where there is no chance of the fire getting out of control!)

I would not call that a fire. We used to make a bonfire out of one acre of corn stalks. Set them up like an Indian tepee and used them as a cubby house till cracker night - we even had a few girlfriends in there hint hint wink wink.
We would set it alight and flames would be about 30 feet at least, the fire brigade would always come around and put out claiming we were melting the power lines. I cant tell you ghastly things that also happened. We had the biggest fire in town As well we would pick on someone and tie them in the paddock to the fence post, where there was a cranky goat running free and leave them there. Now we know where Firegoat 7 is coming from - and we were about 7 years old. |
