Default Upon reflection this thread says it all

Interesting to re-read this thread.

We have the good guys

Just2Good
Iconoclast
Phild
Moz

and Jaydon

shouldering the burden of responsibility

We have the bad guys

Bill Gletsos
KID

laying down moral laws in the wrong context

we have the good hydras

Blank Frank
UKi
Thomas Bishop etc

then we have the nut case

Ophiuchus=Kevin Bonham

his hydra

lotlizard- a classic performance in 3rd party misinformation

a probable hydra in

Saragossa who at 212 pipes in with some classic manipulation

Then an assortment of characters like

Michael Baron
AC
Axiom
Cephus etc

I must admit 111 is some of my best work and 171 pretty much sums up everything.

Please take some time to consider the hydra attacks in this thread

Kevin Bonham and Just2Good have a field day.
If anybody thinks that the moderators are in control of everything, then take some time to view all the accounts in historical context.

It would be worthwhile exercise to identify every real account and every hydra in this thread. I think I could get it right at about 90%. Same problems since 2007!!

Ok fg7, I have taken the time to read all this.
Not a pretty sight I agree.

A long ago I came to a different conclusion about the source of this misbehaviour.
I think that most posters are unskilled to handle a Sophist Troll, and as a result we get to see never-ending bickering.

The long-recommended internet solution is disengagement; which is often expressed Do Not Feed The troll.
Clearly, few in this thread managed to achieve disengagement.

However, there is no evidence, on my reading of this thread, that the existence of hydras is a core issue at all. The long-term bickering has persisted even when hydras have been outed one way or another.

To summarise
  • the misbehaviour in unacceptable to the growth of the forum
  • most posters need to learn how to handle a troll, or disengage
  • to focus on controlling hydras is to miss the core cause of the misbehaviour and will ensure that a solution lies ever in the far future.

WOW! Succinct.

This provides a side step to the hydra debate. How about an Alcoholics Anonymous style help buddy system. When you see a fellow poster drinking the troll's Cool Aide, just post:

"DONT FEED THE TROLL"

This could work well in the shout box.

Yes , and also how about a "See Something Say Something " type campaign .
Where if members spot a new user-name lurking around in the online members section , they could immediately contact admin and make a report . Admin then can use that information to investigate further , checking IPs and other such things ( some of which remain classified ) .
We could even have a "hotline" thread where members can quickly report any suspicious activity .

" BE AWARE NOT ALARMED "
