First things first, the answer to the second puzzle was Rxe8+ Qxe8 (If Kxe8 the g7 Rook hangs) and then Qf6! This threatens the rook pin on the Queen at d8, and if Black moves the Queen, the same Rd8 threat becomes unstoppable.
