The 2008 CV Winter Interclub competition.
Is being played at the Box Hill Chess Club in 2008.
For the past 3 fortnights our Club has been host for the Chess Victoria INTERCLUB competition on Friday nights.
We have welcomed teams from Elwood CC, Noble Park CC, Ranges CC, Croydon CC, and City of Yarra CC; while Box Hill and Canterbury have been well represented in the competition too.
Teams have 4 players for each evening and getting the correct number of players attending on the correct evening is a chore for each Team Captain that gives a few head-aches if there are last minute illnesses.
With one round to go it is interesting to review who is in prime position to win each grade.
In A Grade, ELWOOD have 10 points, which gives them a break on 1 point over the equal second-placed City of Yarra and Canterbury Juniors A.
The lower grades (B to D) are combined this year in an experimental approach to managing this competition. Box Hill B have a clear lead over 11 other teams, and it is certain the team of Scot Sharman, David Flude, Rad Chmiel, Jason Tang, and Roger Croft will take the medals for B Grade.
The INTERCLUB competition gives a scheduling problem for Box Hill CC as we need to run our Friday Grades tournament in the alternate weeks and this causes a little confusion for those who don’t closely watch our calendar. Nevertheless, it is good for chess in Victoria that Clubs get a chance to travel and meet with other Clubs.
Our under performing Box Hill A team will have its last match against Noble Park played in advance this coming Sunday afternoon
