Baron and Jager tie for Allegro 47!
Michael Baron and Jesse Jager have tied for first in a smallish but strong Allegro number 47.
The argy bargy started in the very first round with Chris Kolak falling into a mate in one against Adolph Lekkas while in a winning position to continue what has been a horror stretch over the past few weeks. But in round 3, an even more unexpected blunder happened with Michael Baron losing from a much better endgame against Douglas Lindberg. Meanwhile, Jesse Jager steamrolled his way through the field to reach 5/5 after defeating Lindberg. Eamonn O - Molloy was also having something of a purple patch scoring 2.5/3 against higher rated players in rounds 3, 4 and 5 to reach 3.5 points. But after losing to Lindberg, Baron (like all true champions) was able to fight back and in round 5 he defeated Kolak and went on to defeat Jager the next round to share the lead on 5/6. O - Molloys luck ran out when he got to board 2 and copped Lindberg who moved to 4.5 points along with Beaumont and Tosevski (who had been very lucky against Michael Addamo who overpressed in round 5). In the final round, Baron destroyed Beaumont on board 1 while Jager accounted for Tosevski on board 2. Lindberg needed to beat Fitzpatrick to finish third but ended up losing. While Frank Lekkas had a day to forget, Deniz Tuncer played well to score a solid 4 points in a fairly hard allegro, defeating Tim Trott in the final round. Kolak also played a nice attacking win against O - Molloy in the final round. The loss didnt stop O - Molloy winning the group B prize though and Tony Tosevski won the group A prize.
