There was a Charlie Chaplin movie from the early 1900's where he would pay a boy to throw rocks through a window, and when the owner would come out to see who did it, low and behold some window repairers (one of which was Charlie) with a brand new window are there as the boy runs off. How convenient!

Its all very innocent you know, and a time honoured method to drum up business when natural demand for your products or services is waning.
