I don't believe it belittles his title. I think what AO said was fine because he was being honest. It is true James did not earn his title the way most IM's earn their titles. It doesn't mean that James doesn't deserve the IM title. Nor does it mean that James is not of IM strength. I think you are are simply mistaken to be inferring such a negative implication to AO's comments.
